Bookish Playlist

Hey, sweethearts! Today, we’ll talk about books and music – together! I want to mention some songs that remind me very much of some books and then I’ll give you some recommendations for music that you could listen to while you’re reading. Warning : it’s mostly going to be instrumental because if you’re like me, it’s hard for you to focus on reading and also listening to music that has lyrics. Yeah, let’s get into it!

  1.  Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy – this is my current read and I’m a bit obsessed with it and that’s why we’re starting with this book. Down below are two songs that are perfect for it!!
  • Soap & Skin – Me and the Devil. The lyrics are down below and I get chills only listening to the song, it’s pretty fitting for the main couple in this one.

Early this morning
When you knocked upon my door
And I say: hello satan
I believe, it’s time to go
Me and the devil
Walking side by side

  • Second song that I find very fitting for Anna Karenina as a character (especially near the end of the book) is : Fleurie – There’s a Ghost. I adore Fleurie, she has an amazing voice. Check out some of her songs (especially Hurts like Hell).

There’s a ghost, she’s wearin’ my face
At parties being introduced with my name
Just a skeleton of bones, wearing nothing but clothes
And she is paralyzing.

2. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series by Jenny Han – I adore this series so, so much and I’m going to leave some songs here that I find very suitable for this fluffy, adorable series.

I like me better when I’m with you
I like me better when I’m with you
I knew from the first time, I’d stay for a long time, ’cause
I like me better when, I like me better when I’m with you.

You told me this is right where it begins
But your lips hang heavy underneath me
And I promised myself I wouldn’t let you complete me

I’m trying not to let it show, that I don’t want to let this go
Is there somewhere you can meet me?

3. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo – I’m going to read Crooked Kingdom this month (hopefully) and I need to get excited about it, so let’s see what songs are best for this book.

  • Fall Out Boy – Light Em Up – this is such a badass song and it’s perfect for the crows!!! I adore these kids so much, I can’t wait to read the second book to see what happens next.

Be careful making wishes in the dark
Can’t be sure when they’ve hit their mark
And besides in the meantime I’m just dreaming of tearing you apart
I’m in the details with the devil
So now the world can never get me on my level.

Wrap me up in Chanel inside my coffin
Might go to Hell and there ain’t no stopping
Might be a sinner and I might be a saint
I’d like to be proud, but somehow I’m ashamed.

All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don’t make any sudden moves
You don’t know the half of the abuse

4. The Percy Jackson and the Olympians + The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan – these series are amazing and I have so many headcanons about it!

  • Halsey – Young God – I’ve had this song as a ringtone for a year or something. I adore it and it’s very Percabeth. Fight me if you don’t agree, lol!

But do you feel like a young god?
You know the two of us are just young gods
And we’ll be flying through the streets with the people underneath
And they’re running, running, running.

But you’ll never be alone
I’ll be with you from dusk till dawn
I’ll be with you from dusk till dawn
Baby, I’m right here
I’ll hold you when things go wrong.

5. The Secret History by Donna Tartt – read!!! this!!! book!!! you’re welcome.

  • Halsey – Hold Me Downhalsey and TSH is perfect, really. I feel like The Badlands is perfect for this book and also Devil In Me is great for this book too, but I don’t want to over-use Halsey.

My demons are begging me to open up my mouth
I need them, mechanically make the words come out
They fight me, vigorous and angry, watch them pounce
Ignite me, licking up the flames they bring about.

Throw me in the landfill

Don’t think about the consequences

Throw me in the dirt pit

Don’t think about the choices that you make

Throw me in the water

Don’t think about the splash I will create

Leave me at the altar

Knowing all the things you just escaped

6. Caraval by Stephanie Garber – this is such an atmospheric book and that’s why I will chose creepy, mysterious songs.

It’s dark in my imagination
I dont wanna think about it now
Is it all in my head
Are you somewhere waiting for me?

He chased me and he wouldn’t stop
Tag, you’re it, tag, tag, you’re it
Grabbed my hand, pushed me down
Took the words right out my mouth
Tag, you’re it, tag, tag, you’re it.

This is such a smart post idea! I love having a certain soundtrack for different books/series/genres! I don’t really enjoy reading as much if I don’t have some music. I still do, but adding music just makes it more fun and enjoyable 🙂 Great post!

Aww, thank you, Rachel! ❤ That’s one of the best compliments someone can receive! Me too! Especially Daughter, I’m only now getting into Soap & Skin, but the songs I’ve listened to were perfect! 😊

Ohh this is such a great post, I love the whole idea of pairing music with books 🙂 I only read the Lara Jean books and Caraval from this list, but I love the songs you picked, they’re really fitting for the books. That last one really screams Legend, it’s CRAZY 😮 !
