I’m 21 (???)

Hello, lovelies! I’m Marta and it’s that time of the year again. The time when I think about how I’m getting older and get more frequent existential crises than usual. Yay!

I’m 21 years old and it’s all very surreal especially since this is also my last year of college. Next year I’m going to be a licensed psychologist (wow), time flies so fast.

Most of these days I’m very uncertain about everything in my life from my career path to the major I chose three years ago, it all comes down to how everyone expects me to become a person who has everything figured out while all I truly want is to move in the mountains, in a beautiful cabin with a lake nearby and read all my life. Probably write a few (bad) books as well just to torment you all.

But apparently that’s not how life is and because of that, you might see me complain about those things from time to time. I’m sorry in advance, but you know how I am.

Enough of my complaints, let’s talk about happier things!

Things I’ve Done This Year:

  • I’ve started a Google Sheet with international book reviewers and send it out to quite a few authors. If you’re an author and you see this, you can always contact me about the sheet, I’ll happily email it to you!
  • I’m organizing a read-a-thon called Smash Your TBR, that’s going to take place from Tuesday to Sunday (23rd October to 28th October). I’m going to post my TBR list later today and I hope more of you will take part in it. It doesn’t have many rules, you just read the books that have been on your TBR for a long time or books that you really have to read soon and you’ve been procrastinating (ARCs, for example). I’ll do status updates on Twitter and then a post on here on Monday. I just want a chance to spend my birthday week with you all and have fun doing what we all love – read.
  • I’ve started a beta-reading service that you can check now, it’s dedicated to the writers who want to receive a full feedback on their manuscript and I’m currently accepting manuscripts for feedback.
  • I’m seriously considering doing a Christmas giveaway where I create a blog header for the winner. Tell me if you’d like something like this because I want to give back something to you all, but right now I’m not able to do a book giveaway, sadly.
  • I’ve had great months for blogging and some not-so-great months for blogging with reading slumps and mini-hiatuses that came out of nowhere.
  • I’ve met so many amazing people through this community that I now have the honor to call my friends.
  • I grew a lot as a reader, as a blogger and most of all, as a person. I’ve had lots to learn from letting myself be vulnerable on this platform. I’ve written about somewhat-controversial subjects without being afraid of getting hate or not being liked anymore.
  • I’ve completed my second year of college and chose a subject for my thesis, now I’m currently trying to make myself write something for it. But we’re getting there. Send your love, please.
  • I’ve started to think seriously about writing again – which means I’ve gotten 3 WIP ideas while I was trying to do research work on my thesis. Don’t you love my brain?
  • I’m also freaking out about how I might be failing my reading challenge, which is the worst thing ever. I don’t understand why I’m reading so slow. ugh.

Things I want to do next year

  • I want to travel more, hopefully abroad because I really miss that. Lately, I’ve only traveled in Romania and I just feel the need to see other places, to meet different people. I wish I could meet all my internet friends, to be honest.
  • Be more constant with my reading and blogging. I feel like I’m still getting used to having to accommodate both reading and blogging in my life. They both take a lot of time and sometimes I become a bit overwhelmed especially with college on the side. I don’t know how you all juggle everything. You’re all heroes.
  • Blog-hop more!!! My WordPress Reader is very crowded because I love following and supporting many of you, but that usually means I have too many posts on my reader and have no idea what to read first. And then give up and blog hop only from my laptop. I’ll have to figure out a way to effectively blog hop.
  • Try to get to know more of you, seriously if you want to talk to me, send me a DM on Twitter or something because chances are I think you’re super cool, but I’m very bad at actually doing something.

What are your objectives for the next year?

Tell me if you’re going to join the read-a-thon and attempt to smash your TBR with me.

I’ve turned 21 just a few days ago so I know EXACTLY how you feel haha 😂.
I guess we’ll just make memories for now and see where time takes us. Might as well just experience a little bit of everything 😜.
    Have a great day ❤.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN MARTA ❤ ❤ I hope you're having a lovely day so far ❤
I'm really happy and proud to see everything you've been doing and how did I not know that you started a beta reading service? That's so great, I'll come to you if I ever finish my WIP and when I can afford it, too, haha 🙂 Thank you for everything you've been doing for the community and for being your bright, awesome self, I'm proud of you. 21 is one of the best ages, I swear, even if it does not seem like it at times haha 🙂 you're doing awesome, keep on following your guts and dreams, love xxxx

It was a lovely day indeed and a lot of it was because of you and your sweet messages, I love you! ❤
I've only started the beta reading service, but I'm very excited because it seems like a huge challenge that I want to take on. You don't have to think about money, just finish your wip and let me read it, please. I know that you'll finish it and that it will be sooner than later ❤
Thank you for the constant support, I wouldn't have done many of these things if it weren't for you! I really hope 21 will be a good age for me *hear eyes*

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARTA!!!!! I totally didn’t realize that you did a beta-reading service until this post (which is horrible because there it is, right in your menu bar, for all the world to see). I think that is totally awesome! I’ve always thought it would be really cool to be a beta reader. What have your experiences with that been like, if you don’t mind me asking! ANYWAYS, I hope you had a wonderful birthday and I hope you are able to achieve all of your goals and more this upcoming year 🙂

Ah, actually, you couldn't notice it because I only started offering it on my blog and put it on the menu bar yesterday as well 🙂 I've only beta-read a few chapters here and there for friends and fanfiction writers, so you can say I don't have a lot of experience being a professional beta-reader. But as soon as I get into the actual work, I'll let you know! It always seems very exciting and it would be a great challenge for me! ❤
You too and if you'd like to beta-read, I say go for it, there's nothing to lose, you're already reading and offering feedback through your reviews after all 🙂

hahaha, you're one of the most amazing people I haven't even met as well *hugs*
I really hope that becomes reality, but I'm happy with having a good life without these things as well (minus the travelling part – because I need to travel more, it's a must)

Wow, you’ve got a lot going on–happy birthday, and many more! Oh, and a bit of advice from your elder: don’t worry overmuch. Life is strange, so do your best but be ready to just sit back and enjoy the ride sometimes. And remember that hot tea always loves you. Always.

This is a very good advice, I have to learn to relax and take things slow as I’m sometimes getting very overwhelmed because of my own high expectations. I’m gradually getting there. And tea is helpful indeed!

Your words are so kind, as I've wrote the post, I was feeling like I haven't done enough the past year and was overthinking. It's great to see that people think otherwise and I'm just being hard on myself. I surely will! ❤

I’m sorry this is a day late (better late than never though) but happy birthday Marta! ❤
I hope you had a fantastic day, and it seems like overall you had a good year too, I think it's great you want to start writing again, the only problem with having come up with three WIP ideas is which one to start first, and I'll keep my fingers crossed you manage to catch up on your reading challenge. There's still a couple of months of this year left to go. 🙂
Travelling is one of my goals every year too, and actually I feel like I should put blog hopping on my list as well. I'm sure you'll have these goals crossed off before you reach 22.
Great post, and again happy birthday! 🙂 ❤

Thank you very much for the wishes! ❤
I really hope that I'll be able to complete my challenge, but if I see that it's impossible to catch up in December, I'll probably lower it because I don't want to stress myself too much with my thesis and everything else coming up as well.
Same here, I can't wait to travel more and blog-hop more as well! I think you're already very good at blog-hopping ❤
      Thank youuuu!

Oh yeah, if you’ve got other thing going on there’s no point stressing yourself out. Reading is supposed to be enjoyable and if you’re pushing yourself to meet a deadline it’ll turn into anything but that.
Thanks so much, and that’s all right. 🙂 ❤

Happy Birthday and Congratulations on your accomplishments! I tried to smash my TBR pile a few years ago, and barely made a dent 😓 My biggest goal for 2019 is to complete a full first draft of my own novel, so I’ll be juggling that in addition to my reading and blogging goals. We’ll see how that goes. 😂
