My Tentative Summer TBR

summertbrr.png

Hey, lovelies! I know that it might be a little late to post this, but my summer break started in July. I have an excuse (or so I hope) for making this post now. I’ve been in many reading slumps this year and I really hope I’ll have a better luck this summer, this list will hopefully motivate me for this task!

If you’ve known me and my blog for a while, you probably know that I’m a mood reader – that’s why this TBR is only going to be tentative. I don’t know if I’ll read anything from this list, but I really hope so! If you’ve read any of the books on this list and loved them, make sure to hype them in the comments, that way I might actually get to them!

Let’s get right into this TBR list!

#1. The Nowhere Girls by Amy Reed

I’ve heard only great things about it, these days I’ve found through Silvia’s post (btw check it out, it has amazing f/f romance recommendations) that it has a f/f romance, that there is a Latina MC and I know it deals with feminism and lots of issues. I just want to check it out right now.

Also, I love the cover so much *heart eyes*

3063112433#2 & 3. Pretty Face and Making Up by  Lucy Parker

I absolutely adored Parker’s first book from this series – Act Like It, it has the fake relationship trope and all those books focuses on London Celebrities a.k.a romances between actors and directors and more. I love Parker’s writing and I can’t wait to read more from her.

#4. The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

I’ve heard only great things about this book ever since it came out, though I’ve also heard it has a lot of triggers, so I’m a bit nervous about it. Hopefully, I’ll manage to read it this summer because it has so many five stars rating from people I trust and everyone is raving about it.

AGAIN WITH THE COVER LUST, WHY SO MANY GORGEOUS COVERS ON THIS LIST????

AE34UW#5 & 6. Solitaire & Radio Silence by Alice Oseman

I’m sure Marie is nodding and grinning right now because she’s recommended me Radio Silence a few times and I NEED TO GET TO IT. You might recall that I’ve read and adored I Was Born For This, therefore I’m really excited about reading these other two. Everybody loves them, I can’t wait to join the club.

30319086.jpg#7. If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio

This one has been compared to Donna Tartt’s The Secret History, a book that I’m pretty obsessed with. It has crime, mystery, some Shakespeare, I’m really intrigued.

I don’t want to find out more about this book as I try to get into these kind of books without knowing a lot. It keeps the mystery alive and I usually enjoy reading the books even more.

34726469.jpg#8. Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young

I won this on a giveaway and I’m super excited to read it, I’ll surely read it on August after I come back from the seaside. It’s Viking-inspired, it’s badass and I’ve heard great stuff about it. Also, the hardcover is gorgeous, I love the “breathe fire” writing on the cover.

Tell me down below if you loved it because I’m a bit nervous since it’s quite hyped and I postpone reading hyped books usually (don’t want it to be its case).

#9. The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury

I think I chose the books on this list solely on whether they had gorgeous covers or not. There’s no other explanation here. Anyway, this one has been also recommended to me by my friend, Marie, I trust her a lot and this book seems amazing. I love the premise, I’ve heard great things about it, I’m excited!!!

I’ll read it this summer! I have to!

#10. The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson

I’ve got an ARC for Dance of Thieves and I’ve heard it’s a spin-off of this series, therefore I feel like I should read this first to get a better understanding of the world. But if it doesn’t happen, I’ll probably read the ARC without finishing the series.

It seems interesting, but I’ve also heard mixed things about it, many people say it’s full of cliches, so I’m not sure what to say about it.

#11. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

Actually I already started this one, I’m buddy-reading it with Anna @Reading Peaches and it’s a little emotional monster (besides making me emotional, it also has a monstrous size), but we’re both hopeful we’ll finish it at some point.

The Secret History made me a Donna Tartt worshipper, so it’s not a surprise to anyone that I’m reading this. Also, Aneurin Barnard, light of my soul, is in the adaptation of the book. I MEAN, be serious, how could I not read it?

I like to think that I’m notorious for not sticking to my TBR lists, I even made a tweet about it, dragging myself, so I can keep to this one. Keep your fingers crossed for me, scream at me to read your favourite book off this list, bully me (you have my permission, I won’t take it to heart).

Have you read any of the books I have on my TBR? Would you recommend it to me?

What are some books you want to read this summer?

I’m very excited about it and I’m so hopeful that I’ll finally read it! Just hoping these reading slumps won’t keep me from actually doing it!
Thank you very much, Silvia! ❤

I’m so excited to read The Poppy War since it sounds amazing and everyone has been raving about it. And I’ll start Sky in the Deep soon, I just can’t wait, I love everything Vikings-related.
      Thank you! ❤

Ooooh, I love Radio Silence so much, it’s one of my favourite books of the year! I can’t get over how much I love Alice Oseman’s books. Also, once you’re introduced to Nick and Charlie in Solitaire, please read the novella about them and the on-going webcomic. IT’S EVERYTHING. *heart eyes* I so want to read If We Were Villains, I don’t know much about it, but I adore The Secret History and everyone keeps raving about it, so I shall try it! Have a nice day. 🙂

I’ve heard that the webcomic is amazing and I wanted to read it, I didn’t know it’s related to Solitaire, omg, now I have to read Solitaire first. Thank you for letting me know! I think she’s so talented, if you haven’t read I Was Born for This, you really should because it’s such a great representation of fandom and the diversity is amazing.
I’ve heard If We Were Villains is a combination of TSH with a lot of Shakespeare thrown in, they are more theater people rather than greek/latin scholars.
Thank you, you too, Lucie! ❤

hahaha, this post is a call-out to me and only me, sadly. I’m so bad at reading the books I said I’m going to read *hides away*
but I hope both of us will read the book and enjoy it!
That’s interesting, I can’t wait to read the book and see what happens with me and who I’m going to relate to the most!

YES YES YES YES YES. You’re right, I nodded along as I read this post haha. I am SO excited to see Alice Oseman’s books on your list here and I really hope you will read them this summer, I’ll remind you to haha. They are all so great, even if my personal favorite is her latest, I loved everything she wrote and I hope you’ll feel the same way.
AND YES FOR THE FORBIDDEN WISH AHHHHHHHHHH. This book is brilliant, I loved it way too much and I can’t wait for you to scream with me about it!! 😀
    Happy reading!! ❤ ❤

I’m counting on you to remind me to read them, Marie because I always need a nudge to start books, I’m the WORST! I’m really excited to read everything by her, but I’m also nervous about not liking them because of the high expectations I have after I Was Born For This, ughhhh.
The Forbidden Wish is a book that I really want to start because I’ve read a sample of the audio and it sounded amazing. But I’ll probably still go for the ebook or order a paperback because I never finished an audiobook in my entire life and I don’t want it to be the case here as well.
Thank you, Marie!!! Happy reading to you too! ❤

Ahah I’ll try to remind you of these then 😀 I understand your fear though – I have to say that, in order, my favorite was I was born for this, then radio silence, then solitaire, but… that order just proves that Alice is becoming better and better as a writer and I LOVE IT. You should read her other books, Radio Silence especially was amazing!! ❤
YES THE FORBIDDEN WISH, I will scream about that one FOREVER. It was SO GOOOOOOOD. 😀

I hope you enjoy all these books, one of the only ones of these I’ve read is Sky in the Deep so I hope you enjoy that one for sure. It’s a good book, I hadn’t read many stories which featured Vikings but that one left me wishing there were more out there! 😀
I’ve heard great things and The Poppy War, and oh The Forbidden Wish is on my to-read list too. I need to try and get around to it this year at the very least, but I stuck at TBR lists too so if I get around to it at all this year it will be nothing short of a miracle I think. 🙂
Great list, and happy reading. 🙂 ❤

I might start Sky in the Deep right away, I’ve been eyeing it ever since I’ve finished watching S5A of Vikings, which put me in the right mood. So, we’ll see what’s my opinion soon!
There are so many books that have been on my TBR for so long and I keep saying I’ll read them, but it never happens and it’s making me terribly sad.
Thank you very much! ❤ Happy reading to you too, Beth!

So happy to hear that you thought the rest of the books in the series were great as well! Can’t wait to read more, I haven’t been in the right mood for Pretty Face yet, but I hope I will be soon! ❤

Wow this is such a great list truly. I loved Kiss of Deception and believe that the whole series is actually waaay underrated because I liked it so much. Also Pretty Face looks adorable and I can’t believe I’ve never heard of it before so thank you for introducing me to that beauty! Also Sky in the Deep, The Forbidden Wish, and The Poppy War have all been raved about and are currently taking up space on my own TBR. Excellent post 🙂

That’s great, I haven’t heard anyone say they think it’s underrated, I’ll really have to give it a try. I keep hearing people say it’s kind of trope-y, but the premise is one that usually works for me, no matter how many tropes there might be in there.
It’s my favorite hobby to introduce people to Lucy Parker, Act like It is amazing and I love it so much! ❤
      Thank you very much! ❤

I haven’t read any of those books, so I have literally no thoughts on them hahaha except maybe that The Poppy Wars (gosh, I almost wrote poopy) was all the rage on Twitter and everyone was destroyed by it but loved it. Also, I used to have Kiss of Deception on my wishlist because it was cover lust for me, but then I sort of forgot about it haha curious about how you like that one. Guess I had thouhgts on it after all haha

Hahahaha, your comment probably represents the whole bookworm community : “i haven’t read these books, so I have no opinion, but waaaait, I’ve read some reviews and some people told me some things about it, so I might actually have some opinions”, loved it.
The Poppy War looks amazing and I’m going to read it and love it, I can already tell, my only concern is that it seems to be very full of triggers, so I’ll have to be in the right mood to read it.

Thank you, Naty! ❤ I’ve read so many books for the covers 🙈 I can’t even deny it at this point. Glad to hear you thought Kiss of Deception was fun, I’ll have to give it a try soon ❤

Good luck with your reading this summer! 💕I can definitely recommend The Nowhere Girls, it’s such a powerful yet also hard read about rape culture! It is one of my favorite books this year, but you definitely have to be in the mood to handle a heavy book!

That's exactly why I've been putting it off for a while, right now I'm more in the mood for fantasy and light books and kind of want to stay away from our cruel reality 😦
But I'll read it soon because I've heard nothing but amazing things about it. ❤

I’ve heard so many good things about The Poppy War! I think I might have to see if my library has it. I’m hit and miss on fantasy books, but lots of people have been raving about it. And I have The Secret History by Donna Tartt on my shelf – I’m hoping I like it so I can pick up The Goldfinch! Enjoy your reading. 🙂

Same here! I’m actually nervous whenever I start a high fantasy (especially) because I might not enjoy the world building or the characters. I don’t know, usually it’s easier for me to read contemporaries. But I’ve only heard great things about it, so I’m excited! ❤
The Secret History is amazing and super mysterious, I'd compare it to How to Get Away with Murder, if you watched the show, especially the first 2 seasons.
I'm currently reading The Goldfinch and it's very slow, so I'd go with TSH if you want something faster and The Goldfinch when you're ready to read something very character-focused, but with less things happening.
      Happy reading! ❤

Yay, so happy you’re loving it, can’t wait to get into it myself!
Ah, I understand that, I’m on an ARC ban, which means I’m not requesting anything anymore because I have too many books that I should read in both physical and digital format. I just need to do something about my TBR and soon before I drown in it.
      Happy reading! ❤
