Happy Holidays!!! + The Cursed Books Awards

 

Hey, everyone! It’s that time of the year once again, I hope you’re having a great time and spend it with all your loved ones, eating good stuff and doing only what you love!! If you read all day, I totally support you!

And today – Christmas day – I’m hosting a bookish award, inspired by the Goodreads one. The idea came from the fact that I’ve only read one book out of the ones that won the Goodreads competition and that pushed me to create my own list. (Probably the best thing that happened with those awards is THUG winning in two categories and I say that as someone who haven’t read the book yet). 

I tried to do something genre-wise, but I wasn’t able to, so I will just make a list of my most favourite books that I’ve read in 2017 and my least favourite books from 2017. Let’s begin!

Favourite Books of 2017

(in no particular order)

 

1. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo – I’ve read this book back in March and it was one of the best reads of this year because the characters are so amazing.

The cast is so diverse, the relationship between them are precious. I just can’t wait to finally read the sequel (I’m also putting it off because I don’t want to part with my bbys).

 

 

 

 

 

2. Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

hey, my name is Marta and I’m Sepetys trash. bye.

I just adore Ruta Sepetys’ books so much, they break my heart all the time and they make me cry and that’s very rare. I can’t press it enough how much I want all of you to read her books (now).

 

 

 

 

3. Vicious by V.E. Schwab

This book turned out to be everything I ever wanted in a book. I devoured it in a day or two because it was so easy to love. I love Victor, I love Sydney, I love everyone, I love how chocolate is worshipped in this book as it should be.

Also, I adore books about superheroes where the whole trope is twisted and turns out to be something else. Just lovely.

 

 

 

4. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I’m so glad I was able to discover Reid because her writing is everything, she created Evelyn Hugo, who is the bisexual goddess we all deserve.

 

 

5. The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

2017 was the year I met my mom, Shahrzad Al-Khayzuran and it’s also the year I read almost all the books Ahdieh published. I still have one or something, please check out these books because they are amazing. You have no idea what you’re losing.

6. You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone by Rachel Lynn Solomon  – review here (x)

This is actually a 2018 release, but you all are going to read it soon in January and know what I’m talking about. It’s definitely everything I’ve ever wanted in a book and whenever someone says YA lit sucks or doesn’t tackle important issue, I will give them this book.

Absolute favourite. It cleared my skin, fed my children, you know the rest.

 

 

Honorable mentions : East of Eden by John Steinbeck, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens by Becky Albertalli and Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills (that I haven’t finished yet, but I’m 50% in and I know I will love it more than I can handle).

 

Least Favourite Books of 2017

(a.k.a the books that disappointed me too much)

 

1. The Hearts We Sold by Emily Lloyd-Jones

I was very bummed by this one because I wanted to read a book about pacts with demons and selling your heart to a demon and so on. I had huge expectations from this one and it didn’t happen.

Eh. I’m positive that one day I will find my favourite book that has demons and also a great pace and characters I’m interested in.

 

 

 

2. The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon – my review here (x)

Insta-love destroyed this book. I’m sorry. I so wanted to enjoy this one, but insta-love is something I can’t deal with, sadly.

I know this book is a popular one, so I hope you’ll be able to forgive me for this one, but I really disliked it.

 

 

 

 

3. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

I’m sorry, but why so many stereotypes???

I know I dislike a book when the character I love the most is the so-called villain.

4. Confess by Colleen Hoover

I think 2017 was the year when I decided to say goodbye to Hoover. I might read some of her next books, at some point, because of my curiosity. But we’re mostly over. And this book is to blame. It was just too bad. Even guilty pleasures reads should have to make some sense. And this wasn’t the case here.

Definitely one of my most disliked books of the year.
