Beat the Backlist – TBR

Hello, everyone! I’m here with another challenge/readathon – this time it’s a year long one and it will probably be a huge challenge for me because I’m a huge procastinator. I was pretty undecided about whether to join Beat the Backlist or not because I’m very bad at reading books I should have read a while ago, especially if it’s for a game/challenge. My brain does funny stuff all the time. But then I thought – the whole thing sounds so fun, like a Harry Potter competition, do the thing, MARTAAA – and I also made a poll on Twitter and here I am.

The Rules :

The challenge will run from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018. You have an ENTIRE YEAR to complete your goal!

Books must be released prior to 2018 to count for this challenge. Although we love new releases too, this isn’t the challenge for them.

So, I have to read as many books as possible, but without counting the 2018 releases. I have a huge TBR coming for me, I will chose some and you’ll have to cheer me on this crazy thing.

My TBR/Goal :

  1. Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
  2. Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
  3. The Novice by Taran Matharu
  4. Daughter of Burning City by Amanda Foody
  5. The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee
  6. Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu
  7. Girl Out of Water by Laura Silverman
  8. Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley
  9. Geekerella by Ashley Poston
  10. The Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova
  11. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
  12. Warcross by Marie Lu
  13. A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab
  14. A Conjuring of Light by V.E.Schwab
  15. Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
  16. Strange The Dreamer by Laini Taylor
  17. Lovers Like Us by Krista, Becca Ritchie
  18. The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury
  19. The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson
  20. I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson
  21. The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
  22. The House of Hades by Rick Riordan
  23. The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan
  24. The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
  25. Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh
  26. Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills
  27. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

Classics TBR :

  1. Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis
  2. Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
  3. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
  4. Cannery Row by John Steinbeck
  5. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
  6. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
  7. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey
  8. Night by Elie Wiesel
  9. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
  10. A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle
  11. Richard III by William Shakespeare
  12. Metamorphoses by Ovid
  13. The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien

My Goal : 40 books

That’s quite a lot considering the fact that I usually read 70-80 books per year, so at least, half of the books I read should be old releases in order for me to win this challenge. We shall see how it goes!

Have you joined Beat the Backlist? How many books have you set for your goal? What’s your team? Tell me everything!

P.S. : I’m with the Dewey Dragons.

I’M ACTUALLY PARTICIPATING AS WELL!! Only I’m in with the Novel Knights! I’m so excited because 1. Reading last year releases IS WHAT I DO BABY so obviously I’m the best and 2. I never took part in this kind of challange before?? Everything is so exciting!!
I hope we kill murder slowly poison our tbr together (ignore the fact that I thought wayyy too much about the ways I could kill my tbr…just shhh)

Ahhh, Ioanaaaa, I wish we were in the same team, but I’m still going to cheer for you! ❤ I hope you slam this challenge and read all the releases. Hahaha, I know what you mean!!
Shhh, it’s okay, my little dragon, we won’t talk about this! 🤐🤐

Good luck, Tasya! ❤ Wow, that sounds like a lot, I'm a bit envious that you can read that much! I used to read a lot more when I was in highschool, but now college drains me too much to be able to read more than 10 books per month. Happy reading and I hope you enjoy the challenge! ❤

This is such a cool idea! I really need to focus more on backlist titles too; I have such a bad habit of letting books sit unread for literal years! Love that you have classics in there as well as modern releases. Good luck with your challenge! 🙂

I know what you mean!!! This is a habit of mine too, along with reading the first book in a series and then letting years pass until picking up the second book only to not be able to remember anything. Thank you very much! ❤

You have so many books that I love on here! Six of Crows, Words in Deep Blue, Girl out of Water and A Gathering of Shadows. I hope you have a good time with the challenge! It sounds like one that really makes sense and helps work off that ever growing TBR.

I know what you mean, Chelsea! I’m really bad at sticking to my TBRs, I usually don’t do that. That’s why I chose so many books (I really hope I will get to, at least, half of these). Good luck to you! ❤ I hope you slam your TBR.

I’m gonna join now! I have seen tweets about it before but wasn’t sure what it was. I think I have so many books on my TBR that I do need to challenge myself with something like this. Also your list has some incredible books! I have read pretty much all on the classics one and they are very good ones. ☺️

I was planning on doing this challenge this past year too, I made the TBR and I was always adding the books I read so that Slytherin House could get more points xD But I completely forgot about it a few months after (oops). I’ve learnt my lesson, tho: no more big/long challenges for me. Your TBR sounds interesting! And since I know how hard this can get, I wish you the best of luck 😛

Hahahaha, I really understand what you’re saying, it’s the same for me with sapphicathon (which only lasts two weeks), but I’m so much better with one week ones or one day even. Like, burnout happens, lol. With this one, I hope it’s going to be easier because those books are some that have been on my shelf for too long and I really should get to them sooner or later.
      Thank you very much! xx

This is such a cool challenge! I don’t know if I can or will participate… I struggle to read books on a schedule haha. But I might try to document the ones published pre 2018 that I do read! You will love The Hate U Give and Six of Crows. They’re such fantastic books. Good luck!
