US Covers vs Romanian Covers

Hey, lovelies! Today I’m doing something of a bookish chat, where I will compare the US covers with the Romanian covers and most probably rant about the shitty covers we get here. Or maybe I will be surprised by my country, who knows? I will show those to you and I will also pick which one I like the most and maybe give you some additional information on the books, we’ll see. Let’s get into it!

1. Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

I’m a bit conflicted with this one because for a chance, I really like the Romanian cover (the second one, if you hadn’t already guessed by the weird writing you might not understand, lol). Under normal circumstances, I would have picked the Romanian one, but now I’m wondering what the hell was in their minds? I mean, this book is supposed to be Christmas-y and that cover is very summerish. So, the US cover is better suited for the story, the Romanian one is more pleasing to the eye (at least to me).

2. Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

I don’t know the story in this case, but I’m going for the Romanian cover because that looks so fucking badass, I love the way she looks. I prefer that stance to the one in the US cover. (The girl looks a little bit unnatural in both covers, though, which worries me a bit). SO, Romanian one for the win this time!

3. A Thousand Nights by E.K. Johnston

I’m going with the US cover because it’s looking more mysterious and I love the way the writing looks, that font is so gorgeous. The Romanian one is very simple and a bit impersonal.

4. Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Again, I prefer the US cover because it’s more fitting to the plot, also I prefer the colors in this one too. The Romanian one is very happy and go-lucky, while this could work for the book, too, I feel like the US one captured much better the original plot-line of Maybe in Another Life.

5. Caraval by Stephanie Garber

*cough cough* I want to start by saying I borrowed Caraval from the library. If you can’t tell why, then look at that cover. Why couldn’t they use the beauty that is the US cover??? And used that mechanical lame mask? Totally the US cover, no competition for me here!

What do you think of my choices, do you agree with most of them? If you’re from a different country, are you mostly satisfied or dissatisfied with their cover choices? Tell me everything down below!

I bought my copy of Caraval from the Book Depository so I could get the UK cover because I liked it better than the US cover. But thanks for doing this post. I really enjoy cover comparison posts because it’s fun to see the different designs and interpretations of the stories.

Ohhh thank you for sharing these – it was so interesting to see the romanian covers of some books 🙂 I have to admit, I agree with you on a lot of these: A Thousand Nights’ US cover looks a lot more mysterious and I love it so much 🙂 I really like the Romanian cover of Maybe In Another Life, I have to admit that I haven’t read the book, though, so I’ll trust you when you say the US one does fit better with the story, ahah 🙂 Lovely post! ❤
