Mid-year book freakout

Hello, everyone! Can you believe it’s September already? I feel really sad right now! Let’s start with the questions, I’m already getting anxious about how easy summer went by. Also, I know that I’m somewhat late with this tag, but I really loved those questions. So, bear with me.

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2017?

That’s probably Vicious by V.E. Schwab, it was pretty difficult to choose since I’ve read some incredible books this year. Therefore, I’ll have to mention East of Eden, Salt to the Sea and Six of Crows. They all are great reads and have brighten this year for me!

2. Best sequel of 2017 so far?

I haven’t read many sequels this year, though I need to read Crooked Kingdom right now. I don’t know what I’m doing with my life. But I’ve read Infini by Krista and Becca Ritchie and while it can be read as a stand-alone too, it’s the second book in the Aerial Ethereal series. Great book, I’ve gave it a five/five stars!

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to?

33385229    SO MANY, you can say I lost count along the way. But I’m really interested in They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera, mostly because I haven’t read anything by him yet and I have to start somewhere since everyone loves him and there has to be a reason for it, right? The subject is very interesting, there’s diversity, what else can a girl ask for?

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

It’s got to be a Kasie West book, right? I love Kasie West, she’s the queen of fluff. She’s the author I reach for when I’m sad and I need to read light romance that will cheer me up and make me feel like everything is possible. Yes, she’s incredible like that. And Love, Life and the List sounds promising! Honorable mention: I’m also very pumped about Lovers Like Us by the Ritchie twins!!!

5. Biggest disappointment?

28763485For me, that’s The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon, I really wanted to love this book, but it didn’t work for me, at all. Because while I love Yoon’s unique writing style, I didn’t like the coincidences that brought the MCs together, there were too many and it made the romance feel unrealistic.

6. Biggest surprise?

Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index, that book was so cute! I’m pretty sure I’ve read similar books when I first got into reading, so it wasn’t the originality factor that made me like it so much,  it was the characters – they were very loveable for me! It surprised me a lot because I got into it, thinking that it’s going to be another ordinary cute-ish contemporary. But it left me with a lot of feels.

7. Favorite new author (debut or new to you)?

Taylor Jenkins Reid!! She’s amazing and I really need to read more from her because her books seem incredibly mature and she seems to be very skilled at dealing with important subjects and I love that in a author. One True Loves and After I Do sound very good to me and I can’t wait to read them!

As a debut author, I can once again mention Julie Israel!

8. Newest Fictional crush?

29975820Kaz Brekker, this guy seems so great, I just can’t. Like I mentioned before, I have no idea why I haven’t read the second book yet. I think it’s probably out of fear to be disappointed because of second-book syndrome and also because I’ve got spoiled – ugh. I hate goodreads so much.

But Kaz is mind-blowing, I love how mysterious he is, I love that he’s an anti-hero. I love that he’s a thief. I like everything about him and at some point, I’m going to face my fears and get my hands on that second book, so I can end up crushing even more on him!

9. Newest favorite character?

Evelyn Hugo is my new favourite female character because wow, that woman is such a complex character. Also, I loved Inej and Nina very much in Six of Crows and Sydney from Vicious, but Evenlyn Hugo is my newest obsession, so, yes!

10. Book that made you cry?

25614492I don’t really cry while reading, I think I can count on one hand the books that made me cry (and some of those experiences are related to PMS-ing), but Salt to the Sea got some tears from me, I’m pretty sure of it. It was at the end and I was really moved and I think I might have teared up a bit. Yap. Great book. But better not read it in public! Or do it, who cares?

11. Book that made you happy?

136251Hahahaha! Who told you I read books to be happy? I love my books that bring me into a miserable mood for eternity! I’m just being dramatic. I finished the Harry Potter series this year and they made me very happy. I’m positive one distracted me from the pain of having external otitis, so yes! Those books are beautiful and a blessing to the world. Maybe I shouldn’t have picked a picture with the last book since so many deaths that will never be forgiven, do you hear me, J.K.Rowling??? But, it still made me happy, I was content with how it ended and the fact that all was well.

12. Favorite book to film adaptation you saw this year?

8621462Eh. Probably A Monster Calls. I’m not the person you should ask this question since I’m very picky about book to film adaptations. I also watched Before I Fall and hated it, also Everything, Everything which was cute, but not my favourite. So, I’ll go with a Monster Calls, yet the book is still much better!

13. Favorite review you’ve written this year?22328546

I don’t really know… I guess Red Queen. It was rant-ish and I’m always good at this type of reviews. You can check it out on Goodreads here. I’ve been somewhat bad at writing reviews this year because of college and my schedule has been chaotic. But with this one, I had fun because I gathered a list with everything I liked and disliked about it and lists are always amazing! Aren’t they?

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)?

I would have loved to go with Six of Crows, but I can’t since I’ve already mentioned it. So, it’s The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson! This is the Romanian cover and while it might not look impressive here, it’s really beautiful and also a monster of a book! It’s so damn intimidating.

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

I seriously need to finish The Silmarillion since I’ve started it a while ago, also I really want to read The Night Circus since it seems to be everyone’s favourite book and I’ve never read it.

I read Amour Amour and really liked it so it sounds like I need to give this companion novel a try! I have several of these on my TBR and am more interested after reading this! I did just finish TNC last month though so I hope you get around to that one!!

I hope you enjoy Infini, it’s a really beautiful friends-to-lovers story, I adored the chemistry of the main characters! TNC is on my TBR and has been there for a long time, I’ll try to read it this month! Everybody seems to love it so much!

I’m definitely adding to my TBR because I was shocked at how much I enjoyed Amour Amour. TNC is a slow read — at least it was for me — but it was a beautiful read. I wrote a nonspoilery review that describes it better than that attempt there lol! Happy Reading.

Wow it seems surprising that you didn’t like The Sun is Also A Star; I’ve only read positive reviews I’m pretty sure. (but I can’t really judge because I haven’t read the actual book lol) Red Queen was pretty good (it kind of has a ACOTAR vibe) but I never read the second book… #regrets Speaking of which…I ALSO never read Salt to the Sea!! But Between Shades of Gray was SOOOOO GOOD OMG. I definitely plan on picking up Six of Crows after I finish ACOWAR. I’ve been planning to do that for a while now actually haha. A Monster Calls sounds really good I am dying to read it.

I’m posting a The Sun is Also a Star review soon enough to explain more about what I didn’t enjoy about it, but I think you’re right, it might be a pretty unpopular opinion. Salt to the Sea is great, you should definitely give it a try if you enjoyed Between Shades of Gray, technically the main character from Salt to the Sea is Lina’s cousin that flee from Lithuania! So, there are mentions and nudges to BSOG. I went completely blind into A Monster Calls and I was expecting a horror adult story (I blame the cover), so the actual book was a shock to me, but it was still amazing!

I really miss the characters from Six of Crows and I want to know how everything will end, so it’s definitely going to happen! And TNC is also pretty high on my list of priorities. I’ll just have to figure out which one to read first! ❤
